This mile-long portion of Michigan Avenue, near downtown Chicago, is filled to the brim with shops, eateries, and hotels. If shopping is one’s objective when visiting the area, one need look no further than The Magnificent Mile. Additionally, those interested in architecture will appreciate a walk down the Magnificent Mile, simply due to the number of structural highlights along the way. Significant sights include the Historic Water Tower, Tribune Tower, and the Wrigley building.
Navy Pier extends onto Lake Michigan, and offers a great deal of entertainment perfect for the entire family. The first thing one will likely notice about Navy Pier is the towering Ferris Wheel, which stands at over 150 feet tall. Other rides at Navy Pier include a swing-seat ride and a carousel.
The AIC is home to one of the most expansive collections of modern and postmodern art in the country, with over 300,000 works of art in its permanent collection alone. Thanks in part to its impressive collection, the Art Institute of Chicago earns high praise from its visitors, who can enjoy artwork from famous artists like van Gogh and Renoir. The Institute also contains a great deal of interesting artifacts, including the Thorne Miniature Rooms, which display interior design elements from the late 13th to the early 20th centuries in Europe and America.
